But they didn't know that a big hunter/predator/beast was watching/waiting/stalking them from the bushes/shadows/trees. Suddenly, the hunter/predator/beast made a quick/swift/sudden move/attack/leap. The little chicks scattered/fled/screamed in terror, trying to escape/hide/survive.
